Apprentice injured: council removed blade guard

Nottingham Crown Court heard the 22-year-old was working at a school in the summer of 2014 when the lawnmower became blocked. As he tried to unblock it, his hand came into contact with the rotating blade. An investigation by HSE found the council had removed a part from the mower which prevented operators from gaining access to the blade and replaced it with a rubber cover.
