The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has made a number of safety recommendations after a runaway road-rail vehicle (RRV) travelled out of control for 340 metres towards a group of track workers who were working at a station. The vehicle, a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) which had been converted so it could be used on the railways, came to a stop when the track levelled out. Its operator and machine controller were able to run along with it and warned a track worker who was on the line to move clear. There was no damage to infrastructure or equipment and nobody was injured during the incident.
