Risk assessing stress

1. Work-related stress risk assessments (SRAs) can be done simply and effectively using the HSE's Five steps to risk assessment approach. 2. Although, the legal argument for doing SRAs can be persuasive for employers, this should not be the main driver. 3. Only a minority of employers are carrying out SRAs. 4. The onus is on OH practitioners to encourage organisations to carry out, and implement, SRAs. 5. The majority of occupational physicians in the survey believe they should input specifically into the additional risk assessment for a 'vulnerable' employee. 6. SRAs should be targeted at the job rather than the individual.
