1. Ageing policy is now a priority for the government, employers and employees. 2. Legal changes affecting the rights of older workers are to be introduced in 2006. 3. Misconceptions about the needs of older workers are hampering good employment and occupational health policies. 4. New techniques, as well as conventional occupational disease prevention methods, are required to support the employment of older workers. 5. The Work Ability Index has been developed to prioritise interventions benefiting those most in need.
