OH providers are increasingly offering OH services to employers through remote, telephone-based consultations. But while contact-centres may be able to provide rapid access to OH for employees on sick leave, is vital information being lost in the absence of a face-to-face consultation? One of the key roles for any occupational health department within an organisation is to work closely with managers and HR to assist and advise in the management of sickness absence.The basic process within any organisation would be very similar, that is, once a case has been identified, the employee is made aware of the policy and procedure, and then there is a referral to the OH team. There will then be an assessment and a report back to the manager and/or HR with OH recommendations and advice.
