WORK CAUSES ONE IN SIX ADULT ASTHMA CASES

Occupational exposure may account for one in six cases of adult-onset asthma, according to research carried out at Imperial College London (ICL)1. Eighteen of 61 tested occupational classifications showed a significant association with adult-onset asthma, notably including cleaning work, jobs which include cleaning tasks and those where workers are likely to be exposed to cleaning products. The findings are described as 'the first of their kind in the UK and provide valuable information for those concerned with reducing the incidence of asthma in adult life'.
