From October 2013, all nurses will be required by law to hold an indemnity arrangement in order to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Britain, like other member states, is required to bring in laws to implement the EU directive on the application of patients' rights in cross-border healthcare (2011/24/EU).The directive requires member states to have systems of professional liability insurance or similar arrangements in place in relation to the provision of cross-border healthcare.
