SOMATIC SYMPTOM DISORDER: HELP OR HINDRANCE?

The inclusion of somatic symptom disorder' (SSD) in the recently launched fifth version of the American Psychiatric Association's (APA's) Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) could mean millions of people are unnecessarily diagnosed with a mental health disorder.That, at least, is the conclusion of some psychiatrists unhappy at the redefining of existing diagnostic labels.
