1. THOR is a surveillance network that has been collecting incident cases of work-related ill health since 1989. Currently, 1,200 dermatologists, chest physicians, occupational physicians, general practitioners and consultants in communicable diseases participate voluntarily throughout the UK and -for some specialities-in the Republic of Ireland 2. Approximately, 107,000 cases have so far been reported to THOR, encompassing the main diagnoses of respiratory, skin, musculoskeletal, mental and other ill health 3. The network has evolved over time with new schemes introduced while data collection to others has ended. Significant changes include a move towards electronic reporting 4. Benefits to participating physicians include: regular feedback via reports and meetings; access to an ad-hoc enquiry service; the opportunity to collaborate, share and publish ideas with other physicians and researchers; and access to a THOR-related educational initiative, EELAB, which has been accredited for CPD purposes.
