Implementing a national OH clinical trial

THE first two parts of this series highlighted the importance of cultivating a research culture in occupational health (OH)1 and described the development of the first national OH clinical trial in the UK (the 'SCIN trial')2. The trial methodology is summarised in the box on p.38. This third part examines the key stages that were undertaken to deliver the £1.4 million multi-centre trial in practice, including how the research team engaged and supported OH departments across the UK to take part. Some important lessons learned during the trial are also highlighted, which are likely to be relevant to other OH staff who are interested in conducting clinical research.
