摘要

As part of its response to the coronavirus-19 disease (COVID-19) outbreak, the government announced in March that it planned to bring in emergency temporary legislation allowing people to be paid Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) from day one of their absence, rather than day four. It was unclear at the time of going to press when the legislation would come into force. However, the Statutory Sick Pay (General) (Coronavirus Amendment) Regulations 2020 are in force and provide that anyone who is self-isolating in accordance with official public health advice is deemed to be incapable of work and therefore eligible for SSP. The government estimates that up to one-fifth of the UK workforce could be absent from work in a worst-case scenario1.
