The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)nand the American Medical Association (AMA)nhave launched a new program designed to encouragenphysicians to counsel patients about their physicalnactivity regimens: Exercise is Medicine™.nRecent research conducted by ACSM showed that nearlyntwo-thirds of patients (65 %) would be more interestednin exercise if counseled about a physical activity programnby their doctor. And while exercise indeed helps managenweight and obesity issues, it can also prevent and treatnchronic conditions such as high blood pressure, type 2ndiabetes, depression, and a host of other diseases
