The National Nuclear Security Administration's environmental stewardship activities-including planning to support facility deactivation and demolition, and energyrninitiatives-are consolidated into anew "Site Stewardship" program in the Fiscal Year 2010 budget request. "The objective of Site Stewardship is to maintain facility and overall site stewardship by ensuring that all regulatory and energy efficiency requirements are being met, that Special Nuclear Material (SNM) is being dispositioned, and that NNSA excess facilities are appropriately disposed of (sold, transferred, or demolished) in order to better focus resources in support of the overall NNSA mission," the budget request states. NNSA is seeking $90.4 million for the program in FY 2010, with the budget projected to nearly triple to $245 million in FY 2014.
