The Air Force has ramped up inspections of its nuclear-capable squadrons, increased efforts to beef up its nuclear ranks and reorganized its command structure in the wake of several high profile nuclear blunders, according to Maj. Gen. Donald Alston, the Air Force's chief of staff for strategic deterrence and nuclear integration. Along with increased attention from senior leaders, the changes have had a significant impact on the nuclear mission of the Air Force, which is still trying to put several high profile nuclear blunders in its rearview mirror, Alston said at the Second Annual Nuclear Deterrence Summit in Alexandria, Va., Feb. 19.
