AIR FORCE GEN: SENIOR LEADERSHIP KEY TO MAINTAINING NUCLEAR FOCUS

The head of the Air Force's nuclear weapons mission told a House panel last week that the service has made significant progress in correcting many of the issues that led in recent years to several high-profile nuclear blunders, but continued commitment from senior leadership will be essential to maintaining focus on the nuclear mission. Maj. Gen. Donald Alston, the Air Force's chief of staff for strategic deterrent and nuclear integration, told the House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee that the Air Force's cultural shift is still a "work in progress."
