FIVE LANL GUARDS FIRED FOR ALLOWING UNCLEARED VISITORS ON FIRING RANGE

Five Los Alamos National Laboratory security guards have been fired after allowing four unauthorized visitors to operate a variety of weapons at the lab's shooting range last month. The visitors included three laboratory employees and one non-lab employee that had not been authorized to use the firing range in the lab's Technical Area 72. While there, they fired weapons, including the lab's powerful Dillon M-134 mini-gun, and took pictures, which also violated lab policy. The guards are employees of lab protective force subcontractor SOC.
