AMERICAN CENTRIFUGE R&D PROGRAM STILL NEEDS TO FILL $42M FUNDING GAP

The transportation bill passed by Congress late last week failed to grant the Department of Energy transfer authority for a program supporting USEC's American Centrifuge technology, leading to uncertainty in how to make up a $42 million funding gap for the program. The two-year research, development and deployment cost-share program is currently funded by $88 million DOE agreed to provide last month, as well as an additional $22 million from USEC. DOE's total share for the program comes to $280 million, leaving a balance of $192 million.
