Drum With Prohibited Materials Sent to New Mexico Plant for 2nd Time

For the second time in a year, the U.S. Energy Department (DoE) has disposed of a radioactive-waste-containing drum with prohibited liquids at its Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico. The most recent episode was disclosed in a June 11 DoE report that stated the drum came from the Los Alamos National Laboratory and contained excess liquid waste, which is not permitted at the pilot plant in the southeast portion of the state near Carlsbad.
