Danish government officials have rejected calls to export 5,000 cubic-meters of radioactive waste produced by half a century of activities at the Riso research center and report plans call for burying the material-despite objections from representatives of potential disposal sites. The government's plan to bury the low-level radioactive waste by 2018 has been met with opposition by the mayors of Bornholm, Skive, Struer, Lolland and Kerteminde, whose communities are being considered as possible burial sites, the Copenhagen Post reported. The mayors met with the health minister, Astrid Krag, to try and convince her to export the waste, but according to Bornholm Mayor Winni Grosboll the minister reported she intends to stick to the current plan for disposal.
