NRC Issus Final Safety Evaluation Report On Operating License for Columbia Station

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued its final safety evaluation report for the proposed renewal of the operating license for the Columbia Generating Station, concluding there are no open items that would preclude license renewal for an additional 20 years of operation. Energy Northwest submitted an application to the NRC in January 2010, to extend the plant licenses by 20 years for each unit at the facility, located on the Columbia River approximately 160 miles southeast of Seattle, Wash. The current 40-year operating license for Columbia is due to expire on Dec. 20, 2023.
