Radwaste Storage Site near St. Petersburg Scratched over Funding Shortfall

Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom has jettisoned its original model for a radioactive waste repository in the town of Sosnovy Bor, 70 kilometers west of St. Petersburg, over financial concerns, the Russian-language RBK newswire reported. Sosnovy Bor is not only the prospective home to a nuclear repository of some kind, but also hosts the original Leningrad nuclear Power Plant, which operates four outdated Chernobyl-type RBMK reactors, as well as its successor plant, the LNPP-2.
