Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) practices are fundamental worker practices that are expected for all personnel doing work near or on important plant equipment. These FME practices directly support nuclear and industrial safety, by preventing foreign material intrusion into plant systems and components that could damage vital equipment. This report assesses various strategies that can be used to maintain BWR Mark III containment systems as effective barriers, and to retain fission products in containment following a beyond-design-basis accident.
