INL seeks to produce Ac-225, Cs-131

In late June, Idaho National Laboratory (INL) announced an agreement aimed at producing one cancer treatment radioisotope, and work began at the lab on a project to produce another. NorthStar Nuclear Medicine, Inc., has signed a pact with INL to develop and use the lab's Medical Actinium for Therapeutic Treatment (MATT) process, a patented invention for the separation of actinium-225 from unused reactor fuel. Meanwhile, irradiation began in the lab's Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) for the production of cesium-131, to be extracted later by IsoRay Medical, Inc.
