After two decades of stagnation and low prices, recent price increases have begun to stimulate investment in uranium exploration and mining. Since the mid-1980s, the uranium market has been characterized by an ample supply of secondary sources. (Secondary sources are those that displace uranium produced in mines and include excess commercial inventories, military-origin uranium declared excess to requirements, re-enrichment of tails and nuclear fuel produced by spent fuel reprocessing, and surplus military plutonium.)
