摘要

New draft guidance for dealing with the aftermath of radiological terrorist attacks was issued by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on January 3. The guidance focuses on the response to the use of radiological dispersal devices—or dirty bombs—and improvised nuclear devices, which are makeshift nuclear weapons or ones stolen or illicitly purchased from a nuclear state. The guidance, titled "Protective Action Guides for Radiological Dispersal Devices (RDD) and Improvised Nuclear Device (IND) Incidents," was developed by DHS with the assistance of seven other federal agencies, including the Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Input was also received from state agencies.
