The editorial in the May issue of Nuclear News usually enlarges on themes raised in the feature article on capacity factors (see page 28), but what there is to be said on this subject in an opinion piece has already been said here in past years. Instead, this space will indulge in a little analysis of the recent news on new reactors. Yes, ours may be the most persistent voice in the chorus warning that the glamor of new reactors might distract from the more routine business of operating the existing fleet of reactors (most recently in last issue's Nuclear Notes, in fact). Still, events are unfolding so rapidly, and in so many places, that it may be necessary to fit in commentary when the news is still fresh. We promise that we'll resume our finger-wagging about staying on task with operating reactors as soon as possible.
