Octane vs. caffeine

America runs on gasoline. Without it, we couldn't go anywhere-unless we walk or ride bicycles, and only the very health-conscious do that. There's a gas station every few blocks in our town, and cars are usually lined up to buy. But America also runs on coffee. Without it, no work would get done, because nobody could stay awake. Every home and office has a coffee pot. There's a coffee shop on every corner of every street in our down-town. The price of gasoline keeps rising. So does the price of coffee. So some guys at the Beta Bar ran a cost comparison of the two liquids. Here's what I've been able to make out from their scribblings on several coffee-stained paper napkins. The guys who did this are number-loving engineers, so brace yourselves.
