The OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), which first opened its doors 50 years ago this month, began its existence as a much different entity than it is today, and in a different environment. In the mid-1950s, the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC), originally chartered to administer the Marshall Plan for the post-World War Ⅱ recovery of Europe, sought to address increasing European concerns about an energy supply shortage.
