摘要

The alexander-webb bill would boost small reactor r&d and nuclear workforce development and would change some of the procedures for loan guarantee approval. On November 16, Sens. Lamar Alexander (R., Tenn.) and Jim Webb (D.. Va.) introduced Senate Bill 2776, the Clean Energy Act of 2009, which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. The bill would call upon the secretary of energy to offer to pay half of the cost of as many as three applications to certify designs for reactors with a capacity of less than 350 MWe or 900 MWt and would require the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to report to Congress on the status of such applications within 90 days of submission. The Department of Energy would be authorized funding of $200 million annually from fiscal year 2011 through FY 2015.
