During their disclosures of financial results for the second quarter of 2010, Constellation Energy and NRG Energy had roughly the same message regarding their new power reactor projects and loan guarantees from the Department of Energy. Both companies announced that they would reduce spending on the projects because the DOE has not yet offered them guarantees, and they suggested that if offers are not made by the end of the year, the projects may have to be abandoned.
