Salt waste processing handled by ISDP

An audit conducted by the Department of Energy's Inspector General (IG) has determined that a delay in the opening of the new Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) at the Savannah River Site (SRS) will not have a negative impact on the interim treatment of radioactive salt waste. The findings of the May audit are summed up in the report, The Interim Treatment of Salt Waste at the Savannah River Site, which is available online at.rnThe report explains that on December 8, 2008, the DOE named Savannah River Remediation LLC as the contractor to manage radioactive liquid waste operations at SRS. Savannah River Remediation was to take action to treat and dispose of waste stored in underground storage tanks and to operate and maintain the equipment and facilities that make up the liquid waste management system.
