NRG-CPS dispute puts new reactors at risk

One of the earliest and smoothest efforts for new power reactors in the United States has become clouded by doubt. On January 29, NRG Energy held a conference call for investors during which the company's president and chief executive officer, David Crane, stated that if its main utility partner in South Texas-3 and -4 withdraws from the project and does not meet its future obligations, or if the dispute between the parties causes delays that deprive the project of Department of Energy loan guarantees, "NRG will wind down the project as quickly and as economically as possible."
