Raymond L. Murray, ANS Fellow and charter member and an influential nuclear engineering educator, researcher, and author, died June 22. He was 91.Murray attended the University of Nebraska, earning a bachelor's degree in science education in 1940 and a master's degree in physics in 1941. He then relocated to the University of California at Berkeley, where his research in 1942 and 1943 as a physicist at the University of California Radiation Laboratory contributed to the Manhattan Project. In 1943, he continued work in support of U.S. efforts to develop an atomic bomb by supervising uranium-235 separations in Oak Ridge, Tenn., as an employee of Tennessee Eastman Corporation. After World War II, he remained in Oak Ridge, working for Carbide and Carbon Chemicals Corporation as a research physicist. While thus employed, he continued his studies at the University of Tennessee, earning a doctorate in physics in 1950.
