USEC, Tenex ink deal for LEU supply

USEC Inc. announced on March 23 that it has signed a multiyear contract with Russia's Techsnabexport (Tenex) for the supply of low-enriched uranium (LEU) to be used to produce fuel for nuclear power plants in the United States and abroad. USEC and Tenex began working together in 1993 under the Megatons to Megawatts program, through which bomb-grade uranium from dismantled Russian nuclear warheads is recycled into LEU. USEC, as executive agent for the U.S. government, and Tenex, acting for the Russian government, have the task of implementing the 20-year, $8-billion program.
