Installation of Olkiluoto-3's fourth—and final—steam generator completed

The installation of thelastofthe reactor's four steam generators marked a major step in the construction of Ol-kiluoto-3. According to Areva, which is supplying the EPR unit to the utility Teollisuu-den Voima Oyj, between mid-November 2010 and January 31, 2011, the four 550-metric-ton steam generators, each 25 m long and 5.2 m across, were moved into place in an operation requiring skill and precision. Each steam generator was first lifted to a height of 19.5 m in the fuel building and then moved horizontally into the reactor building, where it was tilted upright and lowered into its final position. A total of 40 people worked for three days to install each steam generator.
