A one-stop shop for new entrant nuclear states

The Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) Global is working to become a one-stop shop for countries looking to begin or expand nuclear power programs. Its goal is to create a coalition of U.S. universities, technical schools, and industry to offer services and skills to new entrant states. The coalition is moving from concept to reality, according to Jennifer Reichert, a CRDF Global senior program manager, who is tasked with creating the program, called the Nuclear Education Consortium (NEC). The challenge is to establish it organizationally, create milestones, and then implement the milestones while securing funding to ensure that the NEC is a self-sustaining organization. "The world is going to nuclear power," Reichert said. "Sixty-one countries have asked the International Atomic Energy Agency for assistance at some level in establishing nuclear power programs.
