Peter lyons is to be named the next doe assistant secretary for Nuclear Energy, according to a December 10 announcement from the White House. Lyons, currently the principal deputy assistant secretary of the Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy Office, has been chosen by President Barack Obama as the nominee to succeed Warren (Pete) Miller, who resigned in 2010. It was not known whether confirmation hearings would begin before the current session of Congress was to adjourn in late December. Miller had also served as director of the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM), in charge of the federal program for spent fuel and high-level waste. At this writing, it had not been announced whether Lyons would also direct OCRWM.
