J-Power to resume construction of Ohma-I

The Electric Power Development Company, known as J-Power, announced on October 1 that it will resume construction of its Ohma nuclear plant in Aomori Prefecture. This is the first announcement of the restart of a nuclear construction project in Japan since the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi plant in March 2011. Work on Ohma, as well as on other nuclear construction projects, was suspended after the Fukushima Daiichi accident. The project was about 40 percent complete at the time. Under the government's new nuclear policy, announced on September 14, construction projects that were under way before the accident can now continue, although the policy aims to phase out nuclear power "in the 2030s." Following the government statement, the company decided to resume construction of the plant.
