For roughly three years, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has been preparing for this. A new kind of reactor licensing under 10 CFR Part 52 made it necessary to develop a new kind of project oversight. The Construction Reactor Oversight Process (cROP), under which the NRC will assess regulatory compliance as a reactor is being built, is now in place and is being used to oversee the construction of Southern Nuclear Operating Company's Vogtle-3 and -4 and SCANA/Santee Cooper's Summer-2 and -3.
