Holtec International, a longtime provider of passive systems for the long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel, has devised a small modular reactor-the SMR-160-that is being developed from the company's licensed and deployed technologies and equipment. Holtec's experts in reactor component design, testing, and nuclear component manufacturing hold 33 patents related to heat exchangers and spent nuclear fuel storage systems, with an additional 30-plus patents pending with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for nuclear systems and components associated with the SMR-160.
