FLAMMABLE GAS LEVELS IN SOME HANFORD WASTE TANKS

Flammable gas levels in some hanford waste tanks had not Been measured within the required time frame and therefore were not in compliance with technical safety requirements, according to a December 27 weekly activity report by the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB). The report said that due to data management errors, a Department of Energy contractor had missed the annual deadline for measuring the flammable gas levels at three single-shell tank farms at the Hanford Site near Richland, Wash.
