On September 7, China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board (KNEB) on cooperating in the development of nuclear power in Kenya. According to CGN, the focus of the cooperation is for Kenya to develop the capabilities needed for undertaking a project to construct a CGN Hualong One plant, a Generation III reactor de3sign for which China has full intellectual property rights. Among the capabilities mentioned in the announcement are research and development, construction, operation, fuel supply, nuclear safety and security, and nuclear waste management and decommissioning.
