Partial agreement reached on tank closure

The closure deadline for an underground waste tank at the Savannah River Site (SRS) in South Carolina will be extended by nearly a month under a partial agreement among the Department of Energy, the Environmental Protection Agency (Region 4), and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC). The three agencies announced the agreement on February 12. The agreement extends the operational closure of the site's Tank 16-originally scheduled to be closed by September 30, 2015-until October 27. The parties also agreed to extend for 30 days, until March 12, the Dispute Resolution Committee, allowing for additional discussion of the closure of Tank 12, which, along with Tank 16, is located in the H Tank Farm at SRS.
