Most plants compliant with spent fuel instrumentation order

The accident at the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant in Japan is now almost five years in the past. The lessons-learned process in the United States might be criticized as being either too slow or too demanding, but recently there were signs that power reactor licensees were making progress on the modifications required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission through orders issued exactly one year after the accident. At the end of 2015, the licensees of 58 of the nation's 100 reactors stated that they are in compliance with the order on enhanced spent fuel pool instrumentation (with nine such declarations in December and one in November), and 26 reactors were stated to be in compliance with the order on mitigation strategies (with five announced in December and two in November).
