South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G), the principal subsidiary of SCANA Corporation, is proposing a number of measures to mitigate its impact. The proposal, announced by SCE&G and SCANA on November 16, includes four key elements: (1) a rollback of residential electric rates to March 2015 levels, resulting in an immediate annual reduction in rates of approximately $90 million; (2) the absorption of the net nuclear construction costs by SCANA shareholders through lower earnings over 50 years; (3) the addition of a 540-MW natural gas-fired power plant to SCE&G's system, replacing more than 40 percent of the projected power that was to have been provided by the two new nuclear reactors at the Summer site; and (4) the addition of approximately 100 MW of large-scale solar energy to SCE&G's system.
