August 31, the company filed a recommendation with the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) to continue the construction of the two AP1000 reactors at the Vogtle site near Augusta, Ga. According to a Georgia Power press release, based on the results of a comprehensive schedule, cost-to-complete, and cancellation assessment, the company has concluded that completing both AP1000 reactors represents the "most economic choice for customers and preserves the benefits of carbon-free baseload generation." Georgia Power, a subsidiary of Southern Company, expects Vogtle-3 and -4 to begin commercial operation in November 2021 and November 2022, respectively.
