摘要

In keeping with President Obama's emphasis on science and Secretary of Energy Steven Chu's focus on research within the energy arena, the President's Fiscal Year 2010 nuclear energy budget focuses heavily on research and development rather than deployment of any nuclear facilities. The Administration is seeking a slight cut for the Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy programs, requesting $761 million in Fiscal Year 2010, down from the $792 million provided in the FY09 omnibus appropriations bill. "An important NE priority is to support use of nuclear energy in the U.S. through its research and development (R&D) programs," according to the budget request, which also moves construction of the mixed-oxide fuel fabrication plant out of NE and back to the National Nuclear Security Administration after Congress moved it out of the agency for the past two budget cycles.
