摘要

President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev pledged to continue to work toward the implementation of a civil nuclear cooperation agreement between their two countries last week as they met for the G-20 summit in London. Former Presidents Bush and Vladimir Putin finalized a civil nuclear agreement, or' 123 agreement,' last year and submitted the deal to Congress, however, the Bush Administration pulled the agreement from consideration after Russia invaded Georgia. In a joint statement issued April 1, the leaders pledged to "facilitate cooperation in the safe use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes," according to the statement. "Both sides will work to bring into force the bilateral agreement for cooperation in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy."
