HOUSE COMMITTEE GRILLS DOE ON YUCCA MOUNTAIN SHUTDOWN

The House Energy and Commerce Committee continued its investigation into the Yucca Mountain shutdown this week, grilling Department of Energy officials at a conten tious June 1 hearing. I have watched over many, many years while Nevada has blocked each of the various initiatives," Lyons said at the Environment and Economy subcommittee hearing. "In my view there are many, many steps that remain before Yucca Mountain could ever be opened. The views in Nevada, which I'm using the buzzword of public acceptance and social acceptance, that opposition in Nevada I believe will continue to block progress towards opening Yucca Moun tain."
