Modernising an operating power plant is far more challenging than constructing a new one. Upgrading WER plants has therefore been one of the most difficult tasks facing the nuclear industry in recent years. The nuclear division of Siemens' Power Generation Group (KWU)-now part of Framatome ANP - has learnt many lessons from executing such projects, mainly over the last decade, in all countries with WER plants.
